Virgil "Wrestling Superstar" R.I.P. 1962-2024 [Videos]

Most famously known as Virgil from 1987-1995 in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), professional wrestler Michael Jones, passed away on February 28, 2024, at the age of 61.

After serving behind Ted DiBiase's "Million Dollar Man" character since 1987, Virgil broke away from DiBiase to challenge his long-time "boss" in early 1991 and became a fan favorite. In a build-up to SummerSlam 1991, Virgil saw a major push in the WWF with television time, match victories, and other promotional items promoting his career, including partnering with superstars such as Bret Hart and Roddy Piper. In recognition for an impressive year, surprisingly Pro Wrestling Illustrated ranked Virgil as number 74 of their top 500 wrestlers of 1992, higher than more well-known wrestlers such as Sgt. Slaughter (81), Bam Bam Bigelow (84), Marty Jannetty (85), and Terry Funk (98).

In addition to his time in the WWF, jones spent four years in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) which included time under the name Vincent as a member of the famous faction nWo.

Classic NWA Chicago Match: Sweet Daddy Siki & Art Thomas vs. The Sicilians (Lou Albano & Tony Altimore)

National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) Chicago Broadcaster Russ Davis proclaims, "...this is to my certain knowledge the first integrated tag match anywhere..."

Whether this statement is true or not, it can be said that before the 1960s, black wrestlers were often segregated into their own wrestling promotions. Black wrestlers like Luther Lindsay (born Luther Jacob Goodall) were said to have taken part in the first interracial professional wrestling matches as early as the mid-1950s, however, those matches were rare. Thanks to the American Civil Rights Movement, professional wrestling promotors quickly began to integrate their matches in the 1960s and 1970s following the lead of Stu Hart, Fred Kohler, and Nick Gulas.

Enjoy the match for a surprise ending...

The Rock has come back to Salt Lake City [Video]

The Rock absolutely destroyed the Mormon community in the state of Utah during a visit to the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on a live broadcast of WWE Friday Night SmackDown! on Fox. While officially joining The Bloodline professional wrestling faction on Friday, The Rock did it in style by cutting a controversial promo in a way reminiscent of his classic heel days.
