The 1997 Bret Hart Interviews - Canada Edition [Videos]

Bret Hart's final year in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) saw an explosive ending in November 1997. Hart provided five interesting interviews in 1997 with Canadians that preview and recap his dramatic exit from the WWF. These videos can be seen in this post. Hart would later return to the newly renamed WWE wrestling organization in 2005 to collaborate on a DVD release and to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin - Road to the King of the Ring - June 1996 [Videos]

June 1996 - This month marked a new beginning for the man known as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Gone was his manager "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, and soon Austin's solo career in the World Wrestling Federation would take off to new levels. By the end of 1996, Austin would be facing true WWF Superstars like Bret "Hitman" Hart, and never look back to his days of facing mid-card talent.

WWF SUPERSTARS on Halloween 1992 [Videos]

In a rare simulcast between Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect on WWF SUPERSTARS, and Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan from WWF WRESTLING CHALLENGE, the World Wrestling Federation presented a special Halloween broadcast featuring a WWF Tag Team Championship match between Champions the Natural Disasters (Earthquake and Typhoon) and Money Inc. ("Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase and Irwin R. Schyster).

While there were notable title changes that occurred on television, and important Superstar vs Superstar matchups, the broadcast of WWF SUPERSTARS on October 31, 1992, ushered in a change in format, and featured matches between WWF Superstars against each other rather than the old format of Superstars against enhancement talent (a.k.a. jobbers). While the change primarily was seen as build up to Fox's November edition of Saturday Night's Event and 1992's Survivor Series, this change in format eventually led to the format seen on Monday Night Raw which debuted two months later on the USA Network, albeit to a live audience rather than matches taped in advance as seen on WWF SUPERSTARS and WWF WRESTLING CHALLENGE.

In the weeks to follow, WWF SUPERSTARS and WWF WRESTLING CHALLENGE presented such "main event" matchups as:

  • Razor Ramon vs Tito Santana (11/1/92)
  • WWF Tag Team Champions Money Inc. vs High Energy (11/7/92)
  • WWF Intercontinential Champion British Bulldog vs Repo Man (11/14/92)
  • Shawn Michaels vs Big Boss Man (11/15/92)
  • WWF Champion Bret "Hitman" Hart vs Virgil (11/21/92)
  • "Nasty Boy" Jerry Sags vs the Beverly Brother Beau Beverly (11/22/92)

At the 1996 pay-per-view event, Stone Cold Steve Austin won the tournament, and left a lasting impression with his victory speech, uttering the infamous words:

"Talk about your Psalms, talk about John 3:16 - AUSTIN 3:16 SAYS I JUST WHIPPED YOUR ASS! All he's gotta do is go buy him a cheap bottle of Thunderbird and try to get back some of that courage he had in his prime. As the King of the Ring, I'm servin' notice to every one of the WWF superstars. I don't give a damn what they are, they're all on the list, and that's Stone Cold's list, and I'm fixing to run through all of them... Steve Austin's time has come, and when I get the shot, you're looking at the next WWF Champion. AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE BECAUSE STONE COLD SAYS SO!"

Classic WWF Interviews: Bret Hart and Diesel on Raw [Videos]

November 13, 1995

In a build up to their third pay-per-view title match, Bret Hart and "Big Daddy Cool" Diesel faced questions from Vince McMahon in an interview segment on the November 13, 1995 edition of WWF Raw.

Diesel: "...don't toot your own horn, Shawn Michaels gave me a run for my money too."

Diesel: "I'm not going out there to win on points in some kind of collegiate wrestling match."

Bret Hart: "The one thing about the Hitman is that the Hitman is sorta like a Timex watch, when I take a licking, I keep on ticking..."

Bret Hart: (in an apparent swipe at Vince McMahon) "Well, it's certainly not the money."

This interview segment would continue a feud that began at the 1994 WWF King of the Ring, when Hart defended his World Wrestling Federation Championship against then World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Champion Diesel. The two wrestlers would then face each other again at the 1995 Royal Rumble in a classic match where Diesel held the World Wrestling Federation Championship. After their 1995 Survivor Series match, Hart and Diesel faced off on the In Your House pay-per-view held on February 18, 1996. In later years, both wrestlers would join rival professional wrestling promotion WCW, and become members of the infamous NWO 2000 faction.

New York Radio Advertisements for Live WWF Event in 2002

Radio WWF was a radio broadcast in the early 1990s.

The below radio advertisements promoted two separate World Wrestling Federation (WWF) live events, to be held at Broome County Arena in Binghamton, New York, in December 2001. Prior to the purchase of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and the acquisition of talent from the defunct Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) in early 2001, the WWF tended to book their live events (house shows) at larger venues. Having wrestling superstars like "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, and The Rock, the WWF would fill large stadiums and venues with ease. However, now with an influx of new professional wrestling talent from the WCW and ECW, the WWF had the opportunity to return to their old live event format from the WWF "Golden Age" in the 1980s. This format would allow the WWF to hold multiple live events on the same day, utilizing the large roster of wrestlers the company now employed. For example on January 4, 2002, the WWF held two separate events with different wrestlers, one at the Broome County Arena, and another at Moncton Coliseum in New Brunswick, Canada. For the first time in professional wrestling history, there was one major professional wrestling company that dominated the landscape of the United States and Canada.

The World Wrestling Federation (WWF) held more professional wrestling live events in more locations than any other wrestling organization during the "Golden Age" of sports entertainment. Below are some examples of newspaper advertisements promoting live events (known as house shows) throughout the United States of America.
