Bret 'Hitman' Hart will debut on WWE RAW on Monday, January 4, 2010

In an unlikely turn of events -- even by wrestling standards -- Bret ''The Hitman'' Hart has signed a short-term deal with WWE and could make his return after Jan. 1.

Hart will be a regular on WWE TV until two weeks after WrestleMania, which sets up numerous possibilities. Word is Vince McMahon was going to start a feud with the Undertaker for WrestleMania, but that has been scrapped. The Undertaker-Shawn Michaels rematch will begin to gain momentum.

Hart immediately will begin to feud with McMahon, which could culminate in some type of match at Mania. Hart is 52 and has suffered a stoke, so expecting him to regain the form of the past is a long shot. The Hitman did not want WWE to reveal his return so soon, but as soon as the ink was dry, WWE got the ball rolling by polling the audience to see if it wanted Hart to come back.
